in 1998, during a mostly boring stay in Bavaria,
Nico jotted down some common Algarvian fish species on
a sheet of paper. Listing his favorite fish by their Portuguese
and scientific names, he was confronted with a striking
lack of reliable information on Lusitanian fish and seafood
species and their preparation and got on the track. What
had been intended as a hand-out for friends, kept on growing
for the next five years and inevitably took the shape
of a book. As a co-author, Andrea checked the scientific
facts, did the proofreading and managed the production.
By
December 2003, the German edition of »The
Algarve Fish Book« was born, and so was »Edition
MARISOL«, with the authors doubling the publishers´
part, aside from running their company MARISOL®
sea salt. In 2004, the book won the »Gourmand World
Cookbook Award« as the best German fish and seafood
cookbook and was one of the finalists in the international
competition.
After
the English edition was published in July 2005,
Nico and Andrea started distributing a German nature guidebook
for Southern Portugal the same year. 2006 saw them running
out of stock with the German books and consequently, the
set to work on a new version of »Fische der Algarve«.
The second edition has been critically revised before
reprinting and is out since November 2006.
